Macrogen Next Generation Scholarship
Macrogen Corp. is a leading bioscience firm committed to advanced human genomic sequencing. The corporation provides next-generation sequencing services utilized by researchers from many prestigious institutions and advanced clinical sequencing services to U.S. patients and hospitals.
Macrogen’s Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is the future of DNA research, and the applications for this technology have the potential for enhancing individualized patient care. NGS applications include:
- Identifying rare genetic mutations and variations
- Deeper analysis of targeted DNA regions
- Advanced analysis of gene expression
- Discovery of cancer-causing genetic mutations
- Faster sequencing
Macrogen is committed to supporting students in their educational path. With this in mind, Macrogen is pleased to announce the launch of a scholarship essay contest — the Macrogen Next Generation Scholarship. The essay winner selected will be awarded $2,000 towards their studies.
Who is Eligible
To be eligible, applicants must be US citizens currently enrolled in an accredited 4-year university or college in the US. Applicants must also be enrolled in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics program.
How to Enter
Any student who fits the eligibility requirements listed above can apply for the Macrogen Next Generation Scholarship. To enter student must submit a 500- 700-word essay, or a video (less than 3 minutes long) on one of the following topics:
Topic 1: What health advancements can be made through Next-Generation DNA Sequencing?
Topic 2: What are the benefits of Whole Genome Sequencing and each person knowing their risk potential for certain diseases?
The essay submission deadline is 12:00 a.m. EST, December 1, for the spring semester.
To submit, email your essay as an attachment in PDF or Word format, or a link to your video, including your full name, school you will be/are attending and contact information to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Selection Process and Notification
The Macrogen Next Generation Scholarship Committee will review all essays received and one winner will be chosen for the fall and spring academic semester. The scholarship winner will be announced on the Magrogenlab.com website by December 15. The winner will also be notified via email.
The scholarship funds awarded are to be used for tuition and books only. Once awarded, a check will be written to the recipient’s school and credited for academic costs. The scholarship is non-renewable and is only good for one semester cycle. Recipients are only eligible to receive the scholarship once during their lifetime.
